Compensation: 0.1 FTE equivalent, or $11,022/yr
Commitment: Part-time, with flexible scheduling aligned to Board activities, approximately 10-16 hours per month.
Position Summary
Banbury Crossroads School is seeking a Secretary Treasurer to serve as an Officer of the Board with key financial oversight and governance responsibilities. This fractional 0.1 FTE role (estimated 10-16 hours per month) is ideal for a seasoned financial professional looking to contribute to a mission-driven, independent K12 school. The Secretary Treasurer plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, organizational accountability, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the schools internal financial staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an Officer on the Board and attend all Board meetings, providing regular financial and accounting updates; attend 3-6 Board Meetings each year, virtually or in-person.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of integrity and fiduciary responsibility.
- Review and monitor financial activities of the school; support and liaise with the school's internal controller, especially for the once-yearly audit that occurs from August through October each cycle. Meet with the controller as needed, or quarterly, to provide support.
- Maintain read-only access to accounting systems and provide oversight on budgetary matters and financial planning.
- Serve as backup financial signatory in the event of incapacity of the Board President.
- Record, file, and transmit accurate and timely Board minutes; maintain appropriate Board and financial records.
- Act as a liaison with the schools legal counsel for matters such as minute book management, annual filings, and corporate compliance.
- Report to, and work with the Board Chair to ensure that all Board Directors are informed and apprised of financial status throughout the year.
Qualifications
- CPA, or CA designation required.
- Proven experience in financial oversight, governance, and organizational budgeting.
- Demonstrated understanding of corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
- Prior experience working with or on Boards of Directors is an asset.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and communicate complex financial matters clearly.
- Non-profit experience an asset.
