POSITION OVERVIEW:
As the HR Business Partner for the Western Canadian region located in Acheson, Alberta, you will partner with our operational leaders in the region to provide front-line support for the full range of HR services including employee relations and labor relations activity. This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and juggling multiple priorities at once while providing exceptional HR service on various HR initiatives and processes. This role is an excellent opportunity for candidates who want to grow their skill set and experience a broad range of HR responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in decision-making processes and work closely with managers to support all HR activities.
- Ensure compliance to collective agreements, company policies, local, provincial and government regulations. Partner with local management in addressing employee relations needs in accordance with Company policy. Involved in investigations and recommending corrective action, including the monitoring of corrective action plans.
- Enhance regional staffing efforts and workforce planning to ensure effective sourcing strategies are in place to maintain a pipeline of qualified candidates. Participate in recruitment activities including sourcing, screening, interviewing and candidate selection. Collaborate closely with union officials to support the efficient staffing of site operations and onboarding efforts.
- Collaborate with Barnhart's Shared Services based in Memphis, TN to align recruitment strategies and workforce planning initiatives as well as supporting initiatives to enhance employee culture.
- Provide support on people development, succession planning and employee retention initiatives.
- Work closely with management and employees to improve and influence working relationships, and creates a culture of employee engagement, building morale, promoting diversity, safety and performance through an engaged workforce.
- Conducts analysis of local labor market to guide decision-making for appropriate pay levels according to compensation guidelines and policies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment laws and legislative changes and requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Performing HR related administrative functions as required, including employee file management.
- Occasional travel to branch offices located in Western Canada is required.
Qualifications:
Experience
- A self-starter who needs little direction and is highly self-motivated.
- A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the 'pulse' of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement
- Well-developed problem solving skills, with an emphasis on innovative and creative solutions
- Builds trust quickly and sustains credibility in relationships with others.
- Strong business acumen and demonstrated exceptional judgment, discretion, and professional courtesy.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple priorities simultaneously - orientated on driving results.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources.
- CPHR designation would be an asset.
- 3-5 years progressively responsible human resources experience, preferably with unionized employers.
