A Hire Talent is hiring for a Senior Accounting Manager

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is a dynamic design-build company with a strong reputation for quality and innovation in the commercial construction space. They are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to join their team in Etobicoke, Ontario. This role is ideal for a financial leader who thrives in collaborative environments and is passionate about optimizing accounting operations.

Given the nature of the design-build model, revenue is not always earned at the time of payment. This role requires a deep understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.

POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Senior Accounting Manager oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll, internal controls, and financial systems. As the accounting system administrator, they will manage configurations, access, and improvements.

In the first 6–12 months, the successful candidate will be instrumental in implementing a new accounting software system—experience with system transitions is a strong asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Accounting Operations

· Oversee accounts payable/receivable and banking functions

· Ensure invoices are posted accurately with appropriate job cost codes

· Manage cash transactions and account reconciliations

· Supervise payroll processing and ensure compliance with remittances and filings

· Coordinate timely corporate tax payments

Team Leadership

· Manage and mentor accounting team members

· Assign tasks, set priorities, and promote process improvements

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

· Lead month-end close; ensure completion by the 15th of each month

· Prepare monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)

· Analyze project Work in Progress (WIP) and ensure accurate journal entries

· Support FP&A with month-end reporting packages and forecasts

Billing & Cash Flow

· Collaborate with operations on timely project invoicing

· Monitor A/R and follow up on outstanding balances

· Manage vendor payments while optimizing cash flow

Internal Controls & Compliance

· Maintain strong internal controls over spending, purchasing, and approvals

· Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards

Year-End & Tax

· Prepare audit schedules and documentation for external accountants

· Oversee year-end review, audit, and tax filing processes

Financial Systems

· Administer and maintain accounting software, including configuration and access

· Lead upcoming accounting system implementation and related training

· Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements

Cash Monitoring & Operations

· Monitor company cash flow and key financial health indicators

· Drive operational efficiencies across finance-related processes

QUALIFICATIONS

· CPA designation strongly preferred

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

· 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management

· Prior team management experience

· Experience in construction or design-build environments is an asset

· Strong proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and Excel

· Experience implementing new accounting systems is a strong asset

· Thorough understanding of GAAP, with a particular focus on revenue recognition

· Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and financial accuracy

· Strong communication skills for working with leadership, teams, and vendors

LOCATION This is a full-time, on-site position based in Etobicoke, Ontario.
