Veterinary Purchasing Co. Ltd. (VP) the largest veterinary owned distributor in Canada. Our primary purpose is to ensure that Veterinarians have the supplies they need to provide healthcare to all types of animals. Be a part of the Supply Chain Industry and join our team. We are currently looking for likeminded individuals to join our Operations team in an Inventory Analyst role.


Inventory Analyst
Reporting to the Operations and Logistics Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for utilizing warehouse inventory movement records, including transfers, cycle counts, PO receipts, returns and damages to investigate and reconcile inventory discrepancies. The Inventory Analyst will effectively monitor and minimize inventory adjustments using new S2K software (ERP System). Frequent interaction with Purchasing, Operations, Finance, Customer Service and Regulatory departments will be necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate inventory discrepancies to determine root cause and propose corrective action / preventative action.
  • Coordinate with other workers to resolve discrepancies in inventory levels, lot and expiry dates, units of measure, and FEFO/FIFO stock movements.
  • Assist operations in the identification of trends and data inconsistencies.
  • Understand reporting requirements based on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) principles.
  • Document GMP variances in a formal deviation report as required, as well as provide CAPA assistance to explain recurring or significant variances.
  • Correct inventory in S2K (ERP System) once discrepancies are identified and investigated and apply proper reason for the adjustment on a case-by-case basis.
  • Review items Removed from Pick as an indicator of inventory discrepancies or potential backorder situations.
  • Own the entire life cycle of damaged, misplaced or missing products from the time the exceptions are detected to the resolution of the issue.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory levels by performing regular inventory counts.
  • Verify against inventory audit trails in the system.
  • Remove expired product from inventory at the direction from Purchasing.
  • Work closely with Regulatory and Purchasing on product recalls, including taking product off shelves and quarantining.
  • Ensure all bins potentially holding affected item have been checked on a lot/expiry basis.
  • Define inventory reports that document inventory counts, discrepancies, adjustments, reasons for the adjustments, and other statistical data.
  • Work with Purchasing department on reporting inventory statistics to management and suggesting improvements to inventory control.
  • Perform research on a wide range of inventory related reports.

Good manufacturing practices:

  • Follow and understand all relevant Standard Operating Procedures with respect to Good Manufacturing Practices

Skills and knowledge required:

  • Post secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Finance or Business-related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Inventory Management.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage a team.
  • Proficiency in using and navigating ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with receiving, stock put away, picking, returns, replenishment, purchasing, item numbers, lots and expiry, units of measure, deviation investigation, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing high volumes of data using Excel.
  • Experience with perpetual inventory systems considered an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated individual who drives improvement through data-driven insights.
  • Strong communication skills to work interdepartmentally as required.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm.
