About the job

The Site Controller, is responsible for managing all financial operations at our Sudbury Operations. The Site Controller oversees budgeting, cost management, forecasting and financial planning, analysis, and reporting ensuring that all financial data is accurate, timely, and complies with internal policies and external regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee budgeting, cost management, forecasting and financial planning, analysis, and reporting for the Sudbury Operations, ensuring that financial data is accurate, timely, and complies with internal policies and external regulations.

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for the operations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

  • Prepare site-specific financial statements, P&L analysis, and balance sheets.

  • Provide variance analysis and commentary on financial performance against budget and forecasts.

  • Lead the site's annual budgeting process, working closely with various departments to ensure realistic and achievable budgets.

  • Regularly update forecasts based on actual performance and market conditions, adjusting for any changes in operational strategies.

  • Monitor and control operating expenses across the site to ensure they are within budgeted limits.

  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and recommend strategies for cost optimization and resource utilization.

  • Assist in identifying cost savings opportunities and improvements to maximize financial performance.

  • Ensure compliance with all financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls at the site to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Provide senior management with key financial insights, trends, and recommendations to assist in strategic decision-making.

  • Partner with operations and other departments to improve financial performance through process optimization, risk management, and cost-effective solutions.

  • Coordinate with external auditors and facilitate audit processes as required.

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of any relevant tax reports and compliance with tax regulations.

  • Manage and mentor a team of site finance professionals (e.g., accountants, analysts).

  • Ensure continuous improvement of the site's finance team through training, skill development, and performance evaluations.

Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation is required; CA (Chartered Accountant) designation is preferred.

Work Experience: Nature & Length

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.

  • Mining industry experience is considered an asset.

  • Experience with JD Edwards ERP is considered an asset.

  • Sound knowledge of financial principles, accounting practices, and industry-specific financial regulations.

  • Experience with ERP systems (specifically JD Edwards) and advanced Excel skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
