We're hiring on behalf of a global company in the insurance and claims space that's going through a major general ledger cleanup. If you enjoy digging into messy data, solving accounting puzzles, and building processes that stick, this contract is a great fit.
This is a 6-month remote role for a Senior Accountant with a strong background in high-volume reconciliations, root cause analysis, and process development. You'll be joining a finance team tackling a backlog of complex reconciling items. This isn't just cleanup work - it's investigative and foundational. The team needs someone who can bring clarity, structure, and a little grit.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Take ownership of complex account reconciliations - this goes well beyond standard bank recs
- Work with large datasets (200,000+ transactions) from both GL and non-GL sources, including claims systems and carrier payment files
- Dig into mismatches and tracing issues back to their origin - this is root cause territory
- Design and implement step-by-step reconciliation processes, controls, and documentation
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and IT to align the subledgers with the GL and clean up years of backlog
- Help set the foundation for long-term accounting accuracy and process consistency
- Strong experience with complex, high-volume account reconciliations
- Advanced Excel skills - comfortable working with large data sets, building formulas, pivot tables, etc.
- Highly analytical with a curious mindset - you like getting into the details and solving accounting issues at the source
- Experience with claims, payments, or third-party administrator environments is a big asset
- CPA designation is nice to have, but not required
- Background in mid to large-sized companies - you're comfortable with volume, complexity, and layered systems
- People whose experience is primarily in budgeting, forecasting, or reporting - this isn't an FP&A role
- Candidates coming from small businesses or non-profits - we're looking for someone used to enterprise-level reconciliation challenges
- Those looking to manage teams - this role is hands-on and individual contributor focused
