A large, reputable general contractor is looking for a Senior Estimator to join its team. With a commitment to delivering exceptional construction experiences across Western and Northern Canada, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on innovative, diverse projects.
As a Senior Estimator, you will be a key player in both the Estimating and Project teams, supporting Project Development, Operations, and Estimating from early conceptual design through final bid submission. Youll be involved in a wide range of delivery models including construction management, design-build, lump sum, and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
This is an office-based role, primarily performed in a seated position using standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, printer, and scanner.
Key ResponsibilitiesSolicit, review, and level subcontractor and material supplier quotes
Maintain and build subcontractor/supplier relationships
Maintain databases for unit pricing and productivity
Prepare accurate and detailed estimates including takeoffs, unit pricing, and supplier inputs
Attend client meetings and project interviews as needed
Collaborate with Engineers, Architects, and Owners to refine cost estimates and recommendations
Develop risk mitigation plans and support bid strategy
Prepare and submit proposals and estimates by deadlines
Mentor junior estimators and assist with team training
Maintain and upgrade estimating tools and software
Participate in project and estimating team meetings
Contribute to developing work scopes and scheduling logistics
Identify value engineering options and alternate materials/methods for cost savings
Understand and incorporate insurance and bonding requirements
Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Collaborative and adaptable within a team setting
Effective verbal and written communication
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, OST, Bluebeam; experience with InEight is an asset
Solid understanding of scheduling logistics and project timelines
Accurate quantity takeoff skills (manual and digital)
Ability to visualize and conceptualize from limited documentation
Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
Understanding of lean construction principles
Ability to lead tender closings and develop accurate bid proposals
Post-secondary degree or technical diploma in Construction, Engineering, or related field
Professional Engineering designation or equivalent is an asset
10+ years experience as an estimator in general construction
Experience in project coordination or management is an asset
Demonstrated ability to coach teams and support collaborative planning
Experience with multiple contract types and project delivery methods
