Be the Spark that ignites the potential in people! At our YMCA, we believe in the power of people. Every day, our dedicated employees and volunteers bring energy, positivity, and inclusivity to everything they do. They are the spark that ignites potential in others—helping individuals grow, thrive, and truly belong.

When people feel connected and supported, communities become stronger, more resilient, and full of life. That's the impact of people-powered change. Together, we create welcoming spaces where everyone is valued, differences are celebrated, and possibilities are endless. Be the spark. Shine bright. Help others shine too.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about creating environments that foster inclusion for all children? Do you have experience working with children who have diverse needs? Join our dynamic team as an Inclusion Coordinator and play a key role in supporting campers with diverse needs to fully engage in the day camp experience.

The Inclusion Coordinator works collaboratively with camp counsellors, coordinators, families, and leadership to support the full participation of campers who experience behavioural, developmental, or learning differences. You will help facilitate positive relationships, inclusive learning opportunities, and a camp culture where every child can meaningfully contribute and grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate meaningful camper participation in a wide range of camp activities by helping counsellors plan and adapt programming to meet individual needs.
  • Develop and help implement individualized behaviour support plans (BSPs) that reflect campers' strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Provide on-the-spot coaching to counsellors on inclusive practices, de-escalation techniques, and strategies that foster positive social and behavioural outcomes.
  • Act as a key liaison with families by responding to inclusion-related questions, exchanging updates, and working together to support each camper's full participation.
  • Collaborate with camp leadership to ensure staff have the tools and knowledge to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space.
  • Respond to behavioural incidents calmly and constructively, modelling a strengths-based and person-centred approach.
  • Actively contribute to creating and sustaining a camp culture that aligns with our YMCA values.
  • Positively support and mentor counsellors, helping to build team capacity for inclusive practice.

Qualifications:

  • High-school Diploma or in pursuit of post-secondary education in a field connected to children and youth is an asset. (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.)
  • Experience working with children and youth in a camp environment is preferred
  • Customer service experience is an asset – ability to communicate with parents, families, and volunteers
  • Must have Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C prior to hire (the Y will provide support in registration)
  • Important: As this role is responsible for the care of children, we require a Police Information Check to be provided in advance of your first day of work. Instructions will be provided at the time of offer. If under 18, you will sign a declaration. If over 18, you will need to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the YMCA of Northern Alberta.
