Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is undergoing a transformational initiative to modernize its digital workplace through the implementation of Microsoft 365 (M365) tools, focusing on information and records management. This initiative aims to streamline corporate processes, reduce legacy systems, and improve information governance across all departments and missions globally.
The Technical Architect will play a lead role in architecting and implementing a modern, secure, and integrated M365-based collaboration and information management solution. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in designing enterprise Microsoft solutions, records management, and compliance with Government of Canada standards (SStMID).
Key Responsibilities

• Design and document technical architecture for M365-based information management solutions (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, Dynamics).
• Lead solution integration with existing systems and support data migration from legacy platforms (InfoBank, EDRMS, Shared Drives).
• Ensure compliance with GC digital standards, particularly around PBMM (Protected B, Medium Integrity, Medium Availability).
• Develop strategies for automating information lifecycle processes and simplifying corporate activities such as ATIP, legal holds, and eDiscovery.
• Collaborate with stakeholders including IM specialists, business analysts, and IT teams to ensure solution feasibility and alignment.
• Create technical documentation and lead knowledge transfer to internal teams.
• Provide advisory support for risk mitigation, security, and governance within the M365 platform.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Architect working on enterprise M365, SharePoint, or Dynamics solutions.Demonstrated experience with information lifecycle management, records management, or data governance.
• Experience with Government of Canada IM/IT projects or compliance standards is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud security, access controls, and architecture best practices.
• Experience with system integration, solution evaluation, and architecture frameworks.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Experience working in GC departments (especially GAC) or on TBIPS contracts.
• Familiarity with SStMID and GC digital/data strategy implementations.
• Experience with migration planning and execution from legacy IM systems.
