Job Description and Responsibilities
EVRAZ North America is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join the their team in Red Deer, Alberta. As a member of the Engineering team, the successful Senior. Mechanical Project Engineer candidate will report to the Engineering Manager. They will be responsible for maintaining site and equipment drawings, lead projects, design and technical evaluation of equipment and associated processes, supervise internal and contracted tradesperson resources for assigned projects.
- Supervise and be accountable for crews, both internal and external, when working on projects
- Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences and errors
- Analyze production process and equipment to drive improvement with innovative and effective designs
- Create and update mechanical assembly, design concept, fabrication and machining drawings
- Prepare and maintain models and drawings using Inventor and AutoCAD
- Prepare design calculations, stress analysis and other technical/engineering reports
- Ensure that all project components and activities meet local, provincial and/or federal codes and regulations as well as company's policies
- Develop project cost, schedule and scope of work packages and lead onsite installation activities
- Coordinate, organize and prioritize tasks for the project, including vendor selection, planning, product development, production and finance
- Ensure smooth integration of project activities through all project phases from initiation, through design, construction, commissioning and close-out
- Minimize risks through early identification, planning and proactive project management practices
- Works with Senior Project Manager(s) to initiate the request for proposals, tenders and other competitive selection procedures, and work with the Strategic Sourcing office on the tendering process as required
- Provide project management and engineering assistance to various manufacturing sites when requested
- Preparation of high quality technical and process/equipment analysis reports
- Understand and assess material handling and large scale industrial manufacturing equipment
Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering degree with 10 years of experience and currently registered as a P.Eng. or, the ability to register with APEGA on the first day of work
- Experience in steel pipe manufacturing facility is an asset
- Demonstrated experience leading project tradesperson resources (contracted and internal) in a safe and efficient manner to achieve project objectives
- Extensive experience with initiating, leading and the close out of small and large scale manufacturing facility projects
- Excellent computer skills, particularly related to MS Office Suite, CAD and project planning software
- Able to read, understand, create and troubleshoot mechanical assembly drawings, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
- Must be able to demonstrate a work history in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting
- Willingness to work at a variety of locations within North America as required by department project load
- Ability to support project installation/commissioning activities to meet timelines (flexible schedule required)
- Valid Driver's license
