In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:

Project Accounting

  • Prepare project reports and invoices, set up projects, monitor project status, and ensure project budgets are accurate and updated. Communicate project financial health to Project Managers (PMs) and the Accounting Team as requested.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with Project Managers to review invoices and project status.
  • Review and communicate Estimated Cost to Complete analyses, provisions, and revenue recognition recommendations to relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and project forecasting.
  • Provide standard reports to assist PMs in assessing project financial health and planning/managing projects.
  • Assist in developing and implementing project controls and reports, including accurate project budgets and updated contract values, to aid in financial risk management.
  • Participate in the Year-End Financial Audit as needed.

Financial Reporting

  • Assistance in closing of fiscal month-ends and year-ends, including preparation and review of GL reconciliations and bank reconciliations
  • Assistance in accounting for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, cash receipts etc.
  • Preparation of project financial statements for Joint Venture and related documents.

Statutory Compliance

  • Preparation of monthly remittances (income tax instalments, sales tax and other remittances).
  • Prepare and submit required filings to Statistics Canada.

Budget Coordination and cash management

  • Assistance in the preparation of operating and capital budgets.
  • Cash management including accounts receivable collections, payable and banking.

Other

  • Administration/maintenance of Accounting (ERP) system
  • Other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Finance and Accounting department.

The qualifications you need:

  • A post-secondary degree specializing in Accounting with a minimum of 10-15 years of experience including 2 years in a managerial position.
  • Experience working with an engineering consulting firm.
  • Knowledge of Deltek VantagePoint is a requirement.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A can-do attitude and proven accomplishments as a problem-solver.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to complete multiple project tasks and meet tight project deadlines when required.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment, working towards common goals and objectives.
  • Self-motivation to continuously learn while completing assigned work tasks.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on industry trends.
