Family Well-Being Coordinator

Term: Full-time

The Family Well-Being Coordinator collaborates with key community resources and knowledge keepers to plan activities based on annual traditional activities. They will also aim to increase family participation in traditional activities, knowledge about traditional parenting practices, connections between families and the land, cultural knowledge about hunting, awareness of ceremonies, community history, and legends, and more. The Family Well-Being Coordinator must be knowledgeable, committed, patient, caring, and have a positive outlook on life. They must also be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills to deliver activity programs and messages to all ages.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to the WRFN communities needs and assist with cultural program and/or event delivery.
  • Respond to the needs of the employees, responding to referrals for cultural services to assist families with traditional healing methods (Family Circles, Ceremonies, etc.).
  • Develop cultural activities with the other Family and Child employees (e.g., crafting, Powwows, land-based activities, storytelling).
  • Organize activities and/or programs for families that will generate and maintain interest in community awareness, knowledge, attitudes, and help behaviors related to community cultural strengths.
  • Develop and submit the annual work plan, program descriptions, and monthly reports as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in social work, health, land-based disciplines, or related fields, or a suitable combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience within a health or social services setting / programs, and initiatives related to community social well-being and wellness.
  • Experience in group and process facilitation, community development, and presentation with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and Child and Family Services legislation would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and language.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of colonization and its impacts on Anishinaabe communities (Intergenerational Trauma resulting from IRS, Day Schools, 60s Scoop, child welfare, etc.).
  • Ability to make connections with community members.
  • Must work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work and handle confidential and sensitive information.

Must provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
