The Pre-Media Specialist is responsible for managing and executing all print and digital file preparation and for troubleshooting and resolving all print and digital technical issues. Working closely with manufacturing, they update and supply printer-ready files for all reprints. Working closely with the Edwin digital production team, they provide support for art creation, alt text, and other composition duties as required. The position requires high attention to detail, superior technical skills, and the ability to work to solve complex technical problems. Key to the success of this position is the ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a technical and fast-changing environment.
Key Accountabilities- Pre-Media:
- Supplying alterations to images and art
- Creation of new art
- Creation of BLMs/worksheets for myNelson and Edwin
- Alt-text insertion o JPEG creation for content services, marketing, and other internal users (PIM, corporate website, etc.)
- Creation of small print products, including formatting.
- Creation of myNelson skins/banners
- Complex prepress/file uploading
- Reprints:
- Collect most recent print files from the archive or the CD archive.
- Make all requested changes including editorial corrections, copyright page updating, and rebranding (if required).
- Supply certified PDFs to manufacturing.
- For digital “reprints”, update files and transfer necessary corrections to print files, archiving files separately.
- File requests:
- Provide latest PDFs to all internal stakeholders (Content, CX, IP, Marketing) If a PDF version is not available, create if possible.
- Extraction of hi-res images and art for re-use in other products
- Hardware/software testing
- Testing legacy files to ensure compatibility with new systems and platform updates.
- Researching and testing new tools and software applications to enhance workflows and streamline content conversion
Requirements
- Post-secondary education
- 3-5 years' experience in pre-media
- Proficiency, speed, and accuracy using various computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat, as well as a willingness to learn new systems and technologies as required.
- Highly motivated, well organized, and detail-oriented
- Superior time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and multittask workloads and assignments.
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Able to work both independently and within a team.
