The Catholic Centre for immigrants (CCI) has been serving refugees and immigrants for more than 65 years.CCI is a bridge between the 7,000 immigrants and refugees who come to Ottawa each year and the community. We provide programs and services to help newcomers settle and integrate. We also work in the community to promote the value of a diverse and more welcoming community for all.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the CCI Program Manager and Coordinator, the Career Transitions Employer Engagement & Client Support Counsellor will conduct outreach to employers in the health and STEM sectors in Ottawa and surrounding areas to promote program services. The counsellor will assist clients in achieving their goals by providing individual employment counselling, developing and monitoring Client Action Plans, and performing other activities assigned by the program manager.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and establish relationships with relevant employers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to create opportunities for jobs, placements, and volunteer positions.
- Support the planning of Career Transitions Programs activities, including employer outreach and marketing strategies.
- Coordinate outreach activities to employers to promote program services.
- Conduct cold calls and in-person visits to potential employers and community partners in Ottawa and the surrounding area to highlight the advantages of hiring skilled newcomers and explain the support provided by Career Transitions to employers.
- Stay informed on healthcare industry trends, workforce shortages, and regional hiring needs.
- Facilitate direct job matching between clients and current openings with partner employers.
- Provide individualized counselling to assist clients in achieving employment goals as identified through their Client Action Plan, utilizing a case management approach.
- Conduct structured needs assessments to gather information on employment history, educational background, career goals, and assess employment-related needs.
- Identify barriers to employment and assist clients in developing their Client Action Plan.
- Aid candidates with job readiness tasks, including resume reviews, mock interviews, credential verification, and navigating licensing requirements.
- Follow up with clients at appropriate intervals to monitor progress and record outcomes.
- Track placement and volunteer role outcomes, follow up with employers and clients post-placement, and address any job retention challenges.
- Update and maintain accurate service records, electronic database systems, and program documentation.
- Provide activity reports and statistical data as required.
- Participate in meetings and activities that enhance understanding of newcomers.
- Help build positive relations within the team and with external parties.
- Perform other activities as directed by the program manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
(Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills)
- University degree with 2+ years' experience or equivalent education and experience
- Knowledge of Canadian Health Sector and labour market trends
- Fluent in oral and written English and French
- Strong presentation, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Teamwork ability
- Experience advocating for, and marketing internationally trained professionals
- Cultural sensitivity to immigrant communities
- Excellent organizational skills, priority setting, and deadline meeting
- Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, Zoom
- Car and clean driving record required
Experience in developing strategic partnerships and fostering collaborations with stakeholders is an asset. Familiarity with labour market integration programs and policies is also highly valued. Demonstrated initiative and adaptability in dynamic environments will contribute to success in this role.
