About Us:
Terra Archaeology is a well-established consulting firm specializing in cultural resource management and archaeological services throughout British Columbia. We are currently seeking a dedicated Lab Supervisor to join our team at our lab facility near Kamloops.
Position Overview:
The Archaeology Lab Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our archaeological laboratory, ensuring the accurate processing, documentation, and curation of artifacts and samples. The position is based on-site and requires reliable transportation, as the lab is located approximately 15 minutes outside of Kamloops.
Key Responsibilities:
- Artifact Processing & Lab Oversight: Supervise and coordinate all lab activities related to artifact processing, cataloging, analysis, and curation, ensuring work adheres to regulatory and company standards.
- Staff Supervision: Supervise and support lab technicians, interns, and temporary staff, including task delegation, training, and quality assurance.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate artifact inventories, labels, and digital records; ensure seamless integration with project data systems.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Work closely with project managers and field staff to align lab activities with field schedules and deliverables.
- Compliance & Curation: Ensure all lab activities meet standards required by provincial regulations and repository institutions for the care and storage of cultural materials.
- Facility Maintenance: Monitor the condition of lab equipment and facilities; coordinate professional servicing or repairs as needed.
- Health & Safety: Enforce lab safety protocols and maintain an organized, hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field
- At least 3 years of laboratory experience in archaeological artifact processing
- Experience with artifact photography and image editing software
- Experience managing a lab or supervising staff
- Knowledge of British Columbia archaeology and artifact typologies
- Familiarity with artifact classification and cataloging practices
- Familiarity with curation requirements of provincial repositories
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in data entry and digital cataloging software (e.g., Excel, Access, GIS, or specialized CRM tools)
- Ability to work independently and manage a team
- Reliable transportation to and from the lab site is required

The salary range for this position is $34-$40 per hour. The final wage will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and experience, in alignment with Terra Archaeologys wage equity policies and the compensation levels of existing staff with comparable experience level.
