Senior Director, Actuarial, Finance, Insurance Performance Specialist

My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full time Senior Director, Actuarial, Finance, Insurance Performance Specialist opportunity available for a major firm located in Mississauga, Ontario Canada that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below and I am available at any time to speak with you so please feel free to call me. Synopsis:

The Senior Director, Actuarial & Finance Specialist, Insurance Performance Management & Business Decision Support will be a key member of this firms Insurance Finance leadership team, who is responsible for financial planning and analysis, management reporting, business case modeling/analysis and providing support to the firms insurance executive team. The ideal candidate will manage a team providing value added, timely and accurate reporting, forecasting & key metric information in support of strategic decision making.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess IFRS 17 or International Financial Reporting Standard 17 experience.

Experience in Insurance, preferably life insurance, group benefits and/or both.

More than seven years of experience in management reporting and analysis, and/or FP&A (including development of key metrics/business drivers)

Very strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Presentation skills required, with data mining skill and ability to explore new technologies to enhance the delivery of financial information

Strong team and people management abilities, and ability to play a leadership role across a wide group of peers

Strong analytical skills with ability to multitask and handle high-pressure executive level requests on a continuous basis

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to influence stakeholders mobilize groups to deliver on common goals

Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

Able to consistently exercise independent thought and judgment and adapts to new tasks quickly

Pluses only and are NOT required:

CPA or CFA or Finance MBA

Understanding of actuarial concepts, accounting and/or valuation would be an asset

Exposure to any of the following would be preferred:

Insurance FP&A, actuarial or reporting functions

Experience in financial modelling including understanding of statistics, risk or other quantitative metrics

Prior implementation of reporting/forecasting tools

Responsibilities:

Establish the mandate for a leading Performance Management & Business Decision Support function, working closely with peers across the organization to leverage best practices/lessons learned.

Manage the hub of financial performance information for the Insurance business. Responsible for the development of insightful analysis and actionable information working with business leaders, including the CEO, COO, Chief Digital & Data Officer and CFO of Insurance, and other senior regional staff.

Provide insightful and actionable financial and business analytics of Insurance results; developing complex presentations to support executive decision-making.

Provide business executives and senior management with analysis and recommendations on the usage of financial resources, through identification of issues and ongoing monitoring of results (including leadership over sales and expense analysis) as well as provide analysis of strategic initiatives (PARs/business cases).

Coordinate ongoing forecasts, annual plan, 5 year outlook and line of business reviews with a comprehensive understanding of forward looking trends, including managing the stress-testing exercise for Insurance (in partnership with the Reporting & Controls team).

Oversee benchmarking and peer comparisons; present findings and recommendations to senior management.

Provide financial advisory services supporting various programs across Insurance.

People and team management - fostering an engaged and innovative environment where staff are tapping into financial and non-financial data across the enterprise to drive value-add financial analysis, while keeping current with market trends, the competitive environment, and identification of business opportunities.

Manage changes to current regulatory and accounting standards (i.e. OSFI, IFRS) to ensure they are properly reflected within all forecasting, planning and strategic initiatives presented to senior management in order to identify impacts to the business.

Key Finance contact for the Insurance platform ensuring regular reporting, analysis and performance management requirements are meeting the needs of the Chief Financial Officer, Wealth & Insurance, the Insurance Operating Committee and Head Office through timely, actionable and insightful reporting. This requires the incumbent to drive to conclusion and present results as appropriate.
