THE ROLE
STRIVE has partnered with a well-established and growing real estate development company specializing in single-family and multi-family residential projects across the Lower Mainland. With over 25 years of combined experience, the company is recognized for building high-quality communities and delivering successful developments from concept to completion. As the organization continues to scale, they are seeking a Controller to join their team in Langley, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to play a key role in shaping internal financial systems.
The ideal candidate is a CPA-designated professional with a strong background in real estate development or construction accounting. This person will oversee full-cycle accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting across multiple entities and projects. Theyll also contribute to strategic decision-making, support investment planning, and represent the finance function in meetings with stakeholders, investors, and business partners. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day accounting functions and ensure effective internal controls are in place
- Manage full-cycle financial reporting and contribute to ongoing improvements in accounting processes
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and investment decisions
- Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting for multiple entities and development projects
- Prepare monthly construction draw packages and coordinate with project managers and financial institutions
- Develop financial models, conduct feasibility analyses, and support long-term financial planning
- Generate detailed performance reports for internal teams, financial partners, and investors
- Work closely with external accountants and legal advisors on tax planning and compliance matters
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions, assist with audits, and optimize financial systems
- Support payroll administration and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (CRA, WCB, GST/HST)
- Supervise a junior accounting/administrative team member and manage relationships with external consultants
- Identify process efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities across financial operations
- Serve as a financial representative in meetings with business partners, investors, and other key stakeholders
Qualifications & Skills:
- CPA designation in good standing (mandatory)
- Proven experience in real estate development or construction accounting
- Minimum of 6 years in a senior finance or controller-level role, preferably within real estate or construction sectors
- Strong grasp of Canadian tax regulations and accounting practices relevant to development projects
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, and advanced Excel skills (including modeling)
- Exceptional accuracy, analytical thinking, and communication skills
- Independent, proactive, and solution-focused approach to problem-solving
- Comfortable working closely with executive leadership and responding to evolving business needs
