Schedule: Training - Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm PST. 12 hour shifts - Sunday through Tuesday every other Wednesday or Thursday through Saturday every other Wednesday
Salary: $61,000 CAD
Data Center Metro Technician
The following “Services” shall be performed by the Metro Techs:
- Support data center operations and IT systems, network services, business critical processes and procedures to support the delivery of customer products and services
- Provide technical, operational and administrative support, including as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services
- Support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems
- Plan and execute network deployments
- Install and deploy IT and network hardware
- Make and run patch cables as well as verify testing cable paths
- Oversee access to, and work within, the facilities, including work related to structured cable installation, circuit delivery, and equipment installations
- Support maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and network services, including but not limited to break fix work
- Perform Data Center hardware and inventory audits
- Process incoming shipment, label packages, and maintaining designated storage
- Help manage tickets from end to end
- Travel to nearby cities
- Assist with capacity and power audits.
Metro Tech Expectations:
- The Metro Techs performing the Services must satisfy the following requirements:
- Must have knowledge of and be familiar with:
- Cable management
- Computer components and basic troubleshooting (A+ and N+ certifications)
- Linux
- Cisco/Juniper/Arista/Infinera / Ciena Hardware and OS
- Data Center facilities and environments.
- Must have at least 3-4 years of remote hand working experience
- Able to perform administrative work well, without supervision
- Able to perform the Services independently, without supervision
- Experience stacking and racking servers to a battery or other power source
- Able to work on multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and ensuring up-time
- Able to lead projects and work autonomously on servers, routers, and switches
- Proficient with DCIM tools and ticketing systems such as JIRA
- Perform basic network configuration and troubleshooting of network devices
- Perform basic server and troubleshooting
Preferred, but not required:
- IITL and CCNA certified
- Able to lift 55lbs (25kg) servers/network equipment
- Organized and excellent with documentation
- Good communication skills
- Access to a car and be able to drive between sites in the same metro area if needed (hard requirement).
- Experience planning and executing network deployment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
- Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Possession of a valid driver's license for work-related travel, as required
