Hours of Work: Includes Evenings and Weekends

Annual Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000

Niigaaniin is looking for a Life Long Care Support Worker to support our community members and team at our Indigenous Friendship Center in Elliot Lake! PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Enji Maawinjidiyaang Start Up Coordinator the Life Long Care Support Worker will work collaboratively to promote high quality of life and personal independence through support for Urban Indigenous Seniors and Members of all ages.

The Life Long Care Support Worker will provide culturally appropriate community support services to urban Indigenous individuals that are elderly, frail, physically disabled, and chronically ill, which promote an integrated response, community participation, independent living and an improved quality of life. The program provides security checks, transportation, adult day programming and congregate dining, and Indigenous support services.

The Life Long Care Support Worker will facilitating activities and programs to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. This position supports in the initial development and set up of Enji maawinjidiyaang as well as promotion, coordination and delivery of workshops and community engagement.

The Life Long Care Support Worker will assist Urban Indigenous families and community members in accessing Enji Maawinjidiyaang via membership enrolment and participation in group and individual services, workshops, transportation, advocacy and programs to support independent living and good quality of life.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:


  • Specialized training or experience working with Indigenous seniors and vulnerable populations in a community setting long term care,
  • It is preferred the applicant identify as an indigenous person,
  • First Aid/CPR certified or open to training for certification,
  • Ability to work flexible hours,
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position, and
  • Class G Drivers license and access to a vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
  • Knowledge of chronic health conditions and gerontology-related issues is an asset,
  • Knowledge of health-related legislations and/or any other policies relevant to program delivery,
  • Ability to deliver programming to improve health conditions, i.e elder abuse prevention, diabetes prevention and / or management, chronic health condition management, etc,
  • Effective crisis intervention skills / prevention skills,
  • Excellent case management skills,
  • Ability to coordinate programs and services,
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and programming while meeting target outcomes,
  • Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
  • Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 Platform; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint and Outlook,
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written),
  • Excellent stress management skills,
  • Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadline, and multitask in a fast-paced environment,
  • Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload, and
  • Able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities.
