We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Labour Relations Consultant/Manager to join our clients team in British Columbia on a temporary full-time basis. This pivotal role serves as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor on labour relations matters, playing a key role in fostering a collaborative and respectful relationship between the organization and its unionized workforce.

As a trusted partner to both leadership and Human Resources (HR), the Senior Labour Relations Specialist will provide expert guidance on the interpretation, application, and administration of collective agreements. This position is essential in facilitating fair and effective labour relations practices, conflict resolution processes, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Labour Relations Advisory & Support

* Provide expert interpretation and guidance on the collective agreement with the BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), ensuring consistent application across all business units.

* Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and HR teams on complex and sensitive labour relations issues, including discipline, performance management, and workplace conflict.

* Coach and build managerial capabilities by delivering training on effective labour relations practices, grievance handling, and conflict resolution within a unionized environment.

Grievance and Dispute Resolution

* Manage all aspects of grievance handling, including coordinating responses, conducting investigations, chairing grievance meetings, and preparing for arbitration in collaboration with legal counsel and internal stakeholders.

* Serve as the organization's representative in formal labour relations proceedings including meetings with union representatives, mediations, and arbitration hearings.

Union Engagement & Collaboration

* Develop and maintain constructive, transparent, and collaborative relationships with union representatives to support mutual problem-solving and ongoing dialogue.

* Lead and facilitate Labour Council meetings, engaging key stakeholders from the business and HR to align on strategies and address concerns proactively.

* Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of union interactions, grievance outcomes, and arbitration decisions.

Strategic Labour Relations Development

* Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term labour relations strategies aligned with business objectives.

* Identify trends and emerging issues in labour relations and recommend proactive measures to address root causes and improve workplace culture.

* Collaborate with internal teams to develop tools, resources, and communication materials that empower leaders to navigate unionized environments confidently and effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.

* A professional designation in HR (e.g., CPHR) or Labour Relations is considered an asset.

Experience:

* Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in labour relations within a complex unionized environment

* Proven track record in handling grievances, conducting workplace investigations, and representing management in arbitration or dispute resolution settings.

* Solid understanding of labour legislation and employment laws in British Columbia, including the Labour Relations Code and Employment Standards Act.

Competencies:

* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess risk and propose sound, legally compliant solutions.

* Superior interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build trust across all levels of the organization.

* Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with a high degree of discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism.

* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
