About the Role
You will be a core member of Conqora's leadership team, translating judgment into action – balancing legal stewardship with real business impact - managing risk, articulating the business and legal principals, building systems that support speed and scale, and helping shape long-term outcomes.
As Conqora's internal legal anchor and key commercial voice across our portfolio, you will:
- Lead commercial negotiations—structuring and closing deals with clarity, creativity, and sound legal framing.
- Own end-to-end drafting and legal strategy on commercial transactions, using modern legal tools and streamlined workflows to increase speed and maintain high standards of rigour.
- Build a modern legal function that delivers clear guidance, reduces turnaround times, and enables faster execution.
- Oversee and execute legal strategy across a wide range of topics: corporate structuring, regulatory matters, employment, litigation, contracts, and governance.
- Work closely with the founding partners, contributing to investment decisions, portfolio strategy, and corporate development.
- Sit on portfolio company boards where appropriate, providing a clear and balanced voice across both legal and commercial considerations.
- Manage outside counsel for efficiency, quality, cost control, and consistency – stepping in directly whenever speed or nuance demands it.
- Design nimble legal processes and templates that keep Conqora fast on its feet without sacrificing substance.

Who You Are
- 5–10 years of post-call experience in top-tier corporate/commercial law, with a background in areas such as M&A, private equity, finance, or commercial and transaction-related litigation preferred.
- You've served as General Counsel, Associate GC, or have been the de facto legal lead within a business—ideally in a fast-moving, private company or investment environment.
- You take a structured, pragmatic approach to problem-solving—able to break down complexity, identify key risks, and propose workable solutions.
- You're known for independent judgment, high ownership, and clarity of communication—even under pressure or ambiguity.
- You protect the downside without killing the upside.
- Legally qualified to practice in Ontario, British Columbia, or both (or eligible to transfer).
Compensation & Location
• Base salary: $150,000–$200,000 CAD, based on experience
• Performance bonus
• Equity or Asset-Tied participation linked to board roles and long-term value creation across the portfolio
• Toronto-based or Vancouver based, with flexibility for the right candidate
