Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Club General Manager to oversee the operations of a NEW prestigious wine lounge and private member storage club in downtown Calgary. The Club General Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the club's sales and operations, building a team ensuring exceptional service, and delivering an outstanding experience for our esteemed members. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in club or hospitality management, a passion for building relationships and the world of wine & spirits and has a proven ability to lead and inspire a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Club Operations Management:
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the wine storage club, including member services, agency and vendor sourcing and management, staff management, facilities maintenance, and security
  • Ensure the club is operating in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and member satisfaction
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of services provided to members, ensuring their needs and expectations are met
  • Membership Development and Member Relations:
  • Build and execute a strong membership base to support other key functions in the business (food and beverage operation and events)
  • Build and foster strong relationships with club members, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing any concerns or issues promptly and effectively
  • Organize and oversee member events, tastings, and educational programs to enhance the club experience and promote member engagement
  • Proactively seek feedback from members to continuously improve services and offerings
  • Team Leadership:
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of dedicated staff members, including Assistant GM/sommelier, Administrative Support and Customer Experience staff
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance staff skills and knowledge
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism, and exceptional customer service
  • Financial Management:
  • Strong acumen to reviewing and managing a P&L driving focus on membership and private concierge sales, food & beverage operations and our event management program
  • With ownership, develop and manage the club's annual budget, ensuring financial targets are met
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying areas for business development (sales), improvement and implementing cost-effective measures
  • Oversee inventory management, including all procurement requirements and storage and sales
  • Marketing and Business Development:
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion, including partnerships with local wine and liquor distributors along other relevant stakeholders and value-added retail partners
  • Stay updated with industry trends and competitor activities, making recommendations to enhance the club's offerings and maintain a competitive edge

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Proven experience as a General Manager or in a similar leadership role within the club or hospitality industry (minimum 10 years)
  • Strong knowledge and passion for wine, including familiarity with different wine regions, varietals, and vintages
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team
  • Exceptional customer service skills and a commitment to delivering an outstanding member experience
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, analyze financial reports, and drive profitability
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with members, staff, and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and systems for managing club operations (POS, Inventory, Member management, Finance)
