Contract Dates: June 23, 2025 August 15, 2025
Mandatory Training: June 23 June 27, 2025
Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday (full-time availability required)

About Us

BGC Lawrence Heights Club proudly serves children and youth in the Lawrence Heights and surrounding communities by offering programs that foster social, physical, educational, and creative development. Our summer day camp for children ages 612 focuses on education, recreation, social development, health and nutrition, and the arts in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Inclusion Mentor to join our team as a key member of our Inclusion Staff Team. This role will involve providing one-to-one and small group support to children with exceptionalities, adapting program activities for accessibility, and mentoring youth volunteers supporting inclusive programming. The Inclusion Mentor will collaborate closely with the camp team to ensure all children feel welcome, supported, and safe.

Responsibilities

Inclusive Support & Mentorship

  • Provide direct 1:1 or small group support for children with exceptionalities
  • Implement strategies and tools that promote inclusion, safety, and independence
  • Adapt and modify camp activities to meet a range of developmental and physical needs
  • Mentor and support volunteers who are part of the Inclusion Support Team
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff

Program Leadership

  • Plan, organize, and lead creative and age-appropriate programming
  • Promote a physically and emotionally safe environment for all participants
  • Facilitate recreational, educational, and social activities that are inclusive and engaging
  • Ensure safe use of program supplies and equipment
  • Track and record participant attendance and provide reports as needed

Team Engagement & Professionalism

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and Supervisors to support participant needs
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and reflection sessions
  • Arrive on time and maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor
  • Respond to conflict and behavior challenges using positive behavior strategies
  • Ensure all Club policies, and safety procedures guidelines are followed

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a recognized Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Child & Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, or similar program
  • Experience supporting children with exceptionalities in recreational or educational settings
  • Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria:
    • Be between 1530 years old at the start of employment
    • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person with refugee protection status
    • Be legally entitled to work in Ontario
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and mentorship skills
  • Confident in one or more of the following areas: inclusive recreation, arts, sports, education, health & wellness
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt programming to meet a variety of physical, developmental, and emotional needs
  • Mandatory:
    • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification
    • Police Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months
  • Asset:
    • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
    • Non-violent crisis intervention or behavior management training
