ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Construction Safety Coordinator plays an integral role in project safety is responsible for the Health and Safety Management System of large-scale multi-team projects. This role reports directly to the project General Superintendent and is in frequent communication with key stakeholder such as the subcontractors.

This role is based in South Vancouver on site full time.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Health and Safety Program Development and Maintenance

Ongoing Development and maintenance the projects Health and Safety Program, Policies and Procedures.

Ensure thorough understanding of new and existing WorkSafe BC regulations.

Ensure SBWs Health and Safety Program is in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations.

Assist Senior Management in fulfilling legal requirements, duties and accountability in the Health and Safety Program.

Ensure compliance to client requirements, including maintenance of contractor compliance programs such as ISNetworld, Comply Works, or Procore. (I dont think we use ISN or Comply works here)

Liaise with WorkSafe BC and other regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with regulation requirements.

Liaise with clientele to provide assurance of the quality of SBWs Health and Safety Program.

Conduct Management Inspections on project site to ensure compliance with SBWs Health and Safety Program, client requirements and regulation requirements.

Analyze SBWs safety data, determine achievable goals, and develop corrective action plans for the overall program.

Liaise with trades supervisors and management teams to set a clear expectation of the safety program and requirements.

Manage and participate in incident investigations, First Aid reports, and near miss investigations.

Site Management

Understand project requirements including construction detail, contract information, subcontract management, and schedule, to develop a manageable Project Site-Specific Plan.

Maintain and develop Safety Risk Management best practices.

Actively promoting health and safety awareness and strong safety culture across the project.

Implement safety measures ensuring public safety.

Develop and provide safety resources, such as Field Level Hazard Assessments, signage, safety banners, etc.

Participate in regulatory site walks to look for potential hazards and control measures that need to be in place.

Be comfortable hosting both a Site Level and an Internal Joint Occupational Health & Safety Team meeting monthly.

Ensure that the daily worker count is accurate and documented.

Safety Mentorship and Training

Provide safety program and software training to Management and Construction Safety Coordinators.

Develop safety training material, including company and project orientations, and any other in-house training material such as Joint Occupational Health and Safety Training.

Mentor Construction Safety Coordinators in further developing their field safety experience.

Assist project personnel in obtaining safety knowledge and resources, such as technical safety equipment, industry best practices, training, and documentation.

Manage the performance, duties, and responsibilities of the SBW Construction Safety Coordinators.

Manage a training matrix for all SBW staff to ensure that workers are trained and deemed competent in the work they are doing.

Implement and organize inspection schedules for both office staff and for focused safety inspections.

Document Management

Maintain and record SBWs safety records in management system (Procore).

Review site documentation to ensure quality and compliance of recordkeeping on project site.

Ensure that all subtrades have required documentation submitted prior to starting work and ongoing throughout their time on the project.

Receive daily and weekly documentation required from trades and file accordingly.

Be able to both review and create permits as needed such as ground disturbance, hot work, or confined space permits.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Min 5 years experience in a safety specific role and experience representing the primary contractor for large multi-disciplinary construction projects overseeing subcontractors on site.

CSO certification is a requirement.

Computer Skills:

Expertise with health and safety management software (i.e. Safetysync ISNetworld , Complyworks , ContractorCheck)

Understanding of Microsoft Office (Word Processing, Power Point, Excel)

Understanding of Procore and Bluebeam

Education and Certification

First Aid Level 2 or Higher

Fluent communication (verbal and writing) skills

Valid Class 5 Drivers license
