Program Overview
International Skills Applied for Geriatrics (ISAGE) is a MLITSD funded bridge training program for Internationally Educated Professionals in Healthcare, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Resources and other related licensed occupations delivered in partnership with George Brown College to gain relevant skills and explore alternative careers in the field of Gerontology and Social Services. It offers newcomers an opportunity to gain knowledge of the Canadian workplace, provides access to mentorships and the possibility of internships and employment in the field.
The JVS Integrated Employment Services (IES), funded by MLITSD and managed by WCG, provides employment services to unemployed individuals of all ages, financial backgrounds and skills to help them gain and retain employment within their field or a related field.
The program will be delivered in partnership with George Brown College.
We're looking for someone who will:
• Work with the program team to conduct outreach and recruit participants for each cohort;
• Assess client needs, complete common assessments and develop action plans with appropriate interventions to help clients achieve employment goals
• Demonstrate outcome-focused case management ability; applying knowledge of current local labour market trends and community services in GTA
• Facilitate program information sessions, assess participant eligibility, conduct intake, coordinate referrals and work with the program team to select participants
• Constantly review and update program curriculum to reflect labour market trends
• Facilitate employment preparation workshops and lead meaningful discussion to ensure participants engagement
• Arrange relevant guest speakers and moderate sector specific presentation sessions
• Maintain participants' records, files and training materials
• Provide individual employment counselling to support client needs with resume preparation, cover letter, LinkedIn profiles and all job search strategies
• Utilize internal/external platforms to secure effective mentoring matches
• Screen and match mentors/mentees, conduct online mentor/mentee orientation, capture accurate data
• Case manage and monitor mentoring relationships to ensure mentee/mentor goals are met
• Maintain client case files in internal and funders' databases; monitor clients' progress and provide ongoing follow-up to ensure 3, 6, and 12 month' retention
• Document and monitor employment outcomes, to ensure employment targets are reached and track participants progress both during and after program completion
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counselling experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
• Experience working with Internationally Educated Individuals in the immigration, employment and/or settlement sectors
• Solid organizational, time management, oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work with a wide range of personality types; sensitivity to diversity
• Computer literate; proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn systems used by the agency (i.e. MS Teams, Outlook, SalesForce & CaseFlo) is necessary for this position
• A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
Our ideal candidate will also have:
• Knowledge of the labour market specific to geriatrics
• Online curriculum development and facilitation is a definite asset
• Certificate from a career and work counselling program
• Certification from an organization such as VRA Canada or ICCI
• Knowledge of and exposure to Employment Ontario, including CaMS
• Familiarity with online communication tools (ie. Zoom, MS Teams, Skype)
