Writing Specialist, Donor Relations

Permanent Full-time Opportunity with Extended Health Benefits and eligible to participate in the BC Municipal Pension Plan.

Purpose

The Writing Specialist, Donor Relations works with the Director, Stewardship & Donor Relations and Manager, Donor Communications & Stewardship to produce stellar, donor-centric written proposals and impact reports for a wide range of exciting projects. The role is responsible for creating impactful and memorable communications materials that galvanizes support from our donors and prospects. Our successful candidate will collaborate with the rest of the Donor Relations and Development teams as well as other staff to contribute to the continued growth of the Foundation's realized vision of the Jim Pattison Medical Campus and Providence Health Care Programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and proofread a broad range of donor/prospect solicitation and stewardship materials and correspondence, such as fundraising proposals and impact reports.
  • Depending on the specific needs of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, proof-reading and basic design skills on applications such as Marq.
  • Research and develop content for donor/prospect proposals from a variety of communication materials including letters, reports, newsletter/magazine content, funding requests, donor/prospect stories and other fundraising materials.
  • Conduct research and interviews with donors, volunteers, staff, patients, and other partners as needed to produce donor-centric proposals and reports.
  • Prepare and manage timelines and work plans on writing/communications projects to ensure multiple, overlapping deadlines are met.
  • Problem-solve to assist in resolving strategic, logistical and prioritization issues related to writing/communications projects.
  • Perform other related duties.

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Write in a clear and persuasive manner with an ability to make medical and academic language accessible to a donor audience
  • Demonstrate impeccable proofreading, and editing skills, with experience in the non-profit sector considered an asset.
  • Work directly in layout and design applications such as Marq.
  • Produce a high volume of content and tailor writing style to fulfil project needs, while ensuring proposals and reports are donor-centric and accurate.
  • Excel in managing both short- and long-term writing projects, independently or collaboratively.
  • Meet tight deadlines and complete project deliverables without compromising quality.
  • Integrate feedback from stakeholders with a positive, service-oriented attitude and adjust content accordingly with a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Exercise sound judgment and tact with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion.
  • Uphold ethical conduct by ensuring their behaviour is consistent with the mission and values of the Foundation.
  • Take initiative to stay up to date on best practices in non-profit storytelling and content building.

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in writing and editing, preferably with a fundraising organization, creative agency, or an organization of similar scope.
  • Undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field of study.
  • Exceptional computer skills. Proficiency in any or all of the following: Microsoft Office, Raiser's Edge, Marq, Adobe InDesign and project management tools such as Monday or similar software.
