The Mint is hiring a Director, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance & Administration and Chief Financial Officer you will be responsible for overseeing the organization's ERM, Business Continuity Management (BCM), Internal Controls & Disclosure programs and the management of the insurance portfolio. You will lead a team of 5 professionals who deliver risk management expertise to enable strategic decision making. The team will also ensure the documentation and testing of internal controls over financial reporting and ensure adequate insurance coverage of the entirety of the Mint's activities. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member, collaborating to align ERM programs with business requirements and strategic priorities.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team of ERM professionals to ensure an amazing employee experience for your team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Mint's ERM program to mitigate risks in accordance with risk tolerance levels.
  • Direct the development, implementation and coordination of loss prevention measures.
  • Maintain industry relationships and keep abreast of market developments to be well positioned to procure all corporate insurance services.
  • Lead the collaborative efforts to develop, document, implement and test business continuity plans to minimize downtime, ensure resiliency and speedy recovery.
  • Lead the internal control framework to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and regulations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Fraud Risk Management program to maintain the effectiveness of detection, controls and processes.
  • Develop and present ERM material to senior management, Audit Committee, Board of Directors and Office of the Auditor General.
  • Integrate ERM into the strategic and operational plans, processes and reporting.

This opening is eligible for a hybrid working arrangement and the incumbent will be required to work from the Ottawa location generally on an average of three days a week or more which could change based on operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Languages Requirements:

  • An advanced level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French).

Education & Designation:

  • University degree in a related field is required.
  • Professional accounting designation (eg. CPA, CFA) and/or an advanced university degree would be considered a strong asset.
  • A relevant professional risk management designation or certifications (eg. CERA, CRM, CBCP, MBCP, CFE, CIA) or equivalent is a strong asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years progressive management experience within Enterprise Risk Management including COSO and ISO ERM frameworks and methodologies, Business Continuity management, Fraud Risk Management and internal control standards in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.
  • Experience in policy development, implementation, and monitoring
  • Experience in project and program management
  • Experience providing strategic oversight and recommendations on the effectiveness and viability of ERM programs.

  • Leadership skills including the demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and inspire your team.
  • Ability to think strategically and make decisions based on a broad business acumen.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence and persuade others to facilitate change management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver strategic content in presentations to leadership.
  • The capacity to translate data and research into actionable strategies and recommendations to enable high level decision making.
