Job Description

Job Title: Project Controls Specialist

Location: Hybrid – Toronto, ON

Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension)

Hours: 35 hours/week (Monday to Friday)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Controls Specialist to join our team on a 12-month contract. Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls, this intermediate-level position plays a key role in managing and tracking project costs for assigned portfolios. You will develop and maintain cost baselines, track cost performance, manage changes, and provide in-depth analysis to ensure timely and accurate project reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project cost baselines, integrating control accounts, WBS, and CBS for accurate reporting.
  • Assign appropriate cost codes to contracts and allocate commitments accordingly.
  • Monitor project contingencies and manage drawdown calculations.
  • Collaborate with schedulers to generate time-phased cost data and cost curves.
  • Track and analyze project costs, commitments, invoices, and resource expenditures.
  • Ensure accurate capture and reporting of all cost components: baseline, forecast, commitments, and actuals.
  • Evaluate project changes for cost and schedule impacts; update EAC and FAC based on forecast adjustments.
  • Support capital budgeting activities for major projects.
  • Prepare project dashboards, cost reports, and perform variance analysis.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and accessible work environment, adhering to AODA and OHRC requirements.

Qualifications

Experience & Skills

  • 4–8 years of hands-on experience in project controls and cost management.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and report on budgets, forecasts, and project changes.
  • Understanding of project scheduling and cash flow alignment.
  • Proficient with cost control software (e.g., Contruent PRISM, EcoSys, Unifier, Cobra).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and related technology tools.

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), Business, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Professional certifications (PMP, AACE) are considered strong assets.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of project controls principles and project lifecycle management.
  • Ability to interpret project documentation including Business Cases, Project Charters, and Management Plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
