On behalf of our client, a highly respected leader in the nuclear manufacturing sector, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and deep expertise in nuclear equipment design and advanced fabrication. This is a pivotal leadership role for a technically astute, detail-driven, and hands-on engineering professional who excels in complex, regulated environments.
The successful candidate will lead all aspects of mechanical design and fabrication for nuclear components and waste containers, ensuring alignment with the highest industry standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct all engineering department operations, from planning through execution.
- Develop and implement engineering procedures across both the design office and fabrication shop.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers on the delivery of complex nuclear design projects.
- Manage equipment selection, staffing requirements, and training needs.
- Define and manage project budgets and timelines in collaboration with leadership.
- Execute and oversee mechanical design of nuclear waste containers, reactor components, and structural assemblies.
- Produce 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Design jigs, fixtures, and tools to support precision fabrication and welding processes.
- Ensure adherence to nuclear welding and fabrication codes and standards (e.g., ASME, CSA, AWS).
- Collaborate with quality assurance and production teams to ensure manufacturability and code compliance.
- Lead technical documentation efforts, including design reports, inspection plans, and fabrication procedures.
- Act as a subject matter expert in technical reviews, client meetings, and regulatory audits.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
- 15+ years of design and fabrication engineering experience, with at least 10 years in the nuclear sector.
- Proven expertise in nuclear pressure boundary component design and TSSA registration (CRN) per ASME codes.
- Strong background in material selection and structural failure analysis.
- Skilled in design reviews, report preparation, and engineering sign-off responsibilities.
- Experience in lifting/handling device design and manufacturing is a strong asset.
- Proficient in stress analysis (FEA), GD&T, 3D CAD modeling, and technical drafting.
- Extensive knowledge of welding processes and inspection methods (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of applicable nuclear codes and standards (ASME Sections III & VIII, CSA N285/N299, etc.).
- Familiarity with ESA regulations and related electrical safety codes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
- Hands-on experience in precision manufacturing environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
