About this job:
The position reports to North America P&C SVP, Chief Agent and Head of Canada.
The successful candidate will operate within defined authority to assess, analyze and assist with the underwriting of P&C treaty business across a broad range of products and cedants in Canada. This role will require the candidate to work closely with members of the Canadian underwriting, actuarial, underwriting audit, claims and underwriting operations teams, and to engage with underwriters outside Canada on the bifurcation of Canadian exposure from foreign treaties in accordance with the regulations under Part XIII of the Insurance Act.
As a member of the P&C Canada team, the successful individual will develop their analytical and reinsurance foundation skills, with the prospect to move into an underwriting role.
About the role:
- Assist with the underwriting and decision-making process of P&C treaty business under the guidance and support of underwriters including the analysis and examination of cedant submission data and bordereaux
- Where applicable, operate, evaluate, and improve existing underwriting analysis tools and templates
- Develop an understanding of P&C products and treaty reinsurance structures
- Research and compile marketing and client information for client visits and industry events and ensure Salesforce data is kept current
- Under direction of the underwriters, correspond with clients and brokers
- When appropriate, attend broker and client meetings with underwriters and assist them with underwriting audits
- Be willing and able to travel for business purposes
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams in underwriting operations, actuarial, reinsurance technical accounting and claims
- Review treaty contract wordings and, where appropriate, liaise with internal contract wording specialists
- Support underwriters in producing and monitoring risk accumulation, exposure aggregation processes, business unit reporting and planning
- Demonstrate a high level of competency in the inquiry, collection and analysis of data, trends, market dynamics as well as judicial and legislative news as it relates to Canadian business
- Comply with external and internal policies, procedures, regulations, underwriting guidelines and authorities
- Handle administrative tasks in support of the underwriting team
- Prepare presentations for internal and/or external use
About you:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Excellent analytical thinking and inquisitive mindset with ability to make quantitative and qualitative assessments of risk
- Excellent written and verbal English skills – bilingual French would be an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills with a basic understanding and experience in reinsurance
- Active interest in an underwriting role with a willingness to learn and accept new challenges
- Highly motivated individual who will take initiative and work independently
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Collaborative, reliable, and adaptable team member
