Position Summary:

The Director of Estimating, North America, will oversee all estimating operations for CAM's industrial projects across Canada and the U.S., including capital projects, maintenance, turnarounds, and specialty services. This executive-level role will lead a team of estimators, implement estimating strategies and tools, and drive consistency, quality, and competitiveness in our proposals. This individual will collaborate closely with business development, project management, and operations to support strategic growth and project delivery excellence.

Based in the Edmonton office, this role follows a hybrid work schedule with three in-office days per week (Tuesday to Thursday). Occasional travel to site will be required as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all estimating functions across North American operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of estimators across multiple regions and business units.
  • Standardize and continuously improve estimating tools, databases, and methodologies.
  • Oversee the preparation of conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates for projects ranging from $10K to $50M+.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Operations to support pursuit strategies and bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Ensure the accuracy, competitiveness, and risk management of all submitted estimates.
  • Analyze market trends, historical data, and benchmarking to refine pricing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized estimating function and knowledge hub for the organization.
  • Present estimates to executive leadership, internal stakeholders, and clients with confidence and clarity.
  • Support contract negotiations by providing detailed cost breakdowns and justifications.
  • Partner with Finance and Project Controls to align estimating with budgeting and cost tracking processes.
  • Contribute to the overall strategic planning and growth of CAM's services across industrial sectors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in industrial estimating, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Proven expertise in estimating for industrial facilities such as petrochemical plants, refineries, pulp and paper mills, gas plants, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and managing a high-volume estimating workload.
  • In-depth understanding of cost control, risk analysis, construction means and methods, and project management principles.
  • Proficient with estimating and project controls software (e.g., ACCE, Hard Dollar, InEight, or equivalent).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—capable of engaging at all organizational levels and with clients.
  • Strategic mindset with a track record of improving processes, systems, and team performance.
  • Willingness to travel across North America as required.
