Salary: $145,000/annum

The Opportunity:

As a member of the Designs Engineering team supporting the Refinery, the successful candidate will support the safe and reliable operation of mechanical equipment as well as management of small and medium sized construction projects. This involves equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, compressors, pumps, process piping, and pipelines. Work will include engineering of on-the-run repairs, as well as maintenance turnaround support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as lead console mechanical engineer supporting Operations, Maintenance, Inspections, Reliability, and Field Construction groups. Key responsibilities include:
    • Fitness for service evaluations per API 579/ASME FFS-1 for piping, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers.
    • Gasket calculations per ASME PCC-1.
    • Minimum pressurization temperature evaluations.
    • Piping stress analysis in CAESAR II
    • Hydraulic flow calculations.
    • Providing off-hour support for upset/discovery issues on occasion.
    • Troubleshooting equipment problems with cross-function teams including operations, process engineers, and reliability specialists.
    • Participating in console/equipment life cycle analysis and equipment end of life assessments.
  • Manage small-scale reliability and safety improvements with the following responsibilities:
    • Scope identification, including estimation of labour and material costs.
    • Designing equipment considering engineering standards, safety, operability, and environmental impact.
    • Preparation of specifications for construction and equipment purchases.
    • Completion of constructability analysis & participation in Hazards and Operability (HAZOP) and Layers of Protection (LOPA) studies.
    • Utilizing the Management of Change (MOC) process.
    • Cost, schedule, and change request monitoring and management.
  • Supporting the design engineering team with the following responsibilities:
    • Acting as a mentor to design engineering colleagues.
    • Provide found-work engineering support during plant shutdowns.
    • Shutdown/Startup support.
    • Participate in engineering design standard/practice reviews, taking feedback from 3rd parties.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Science/Engineering specializing in Mechanical, Integrated, or Materials Engineering is required.
  • Eligibility for registration with EGBC as P.Eng. is required and applicant will be expected to authenticate engineering deliverables in accordance with EGBC Professional Management Guidelines and Parkland's PPMP.
  • 8+ years of related engineering experience including 5+ years in oil and gas industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards including ASME VIII-1, ASME B31.3, CSA B51, ASME PCC-1 & 2, API 579/ASME FFS-1, CSA Z662, API 650/653, and TEMA.
  • Resourceful and effective at solving technical problems, at times with limited information.
  • Familiar with 3D modeling software, pressure vessel software, and piping stress analysis software including Solidworks, Codeware INSPECT, and CAESAR II.
  • Knowledge of ASME VIII-2 Part 5 FEA analysis is an asset.
  • Proficient in using MS Office tools, including an ability to process large amounts of data using MS Excel.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills is required; an ability to understand the needs of others in the team.
  • Strong organization skills in managing concurrent and conflicting priorities; time management.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, work well within a team environment.
