The Mobile Heavy Equipment Technician is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including truck-mounted cranes, municipal and rail equipment on the road, utilizing the company service vehicle in our Ontario region (GTA and outlying areas with flexibility).
Major areas of accountability
- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment on the road and in the shop when required
- Help build and expand the Service Department by looking for new customers to support and equipment to work on
- Operate the service vehicle in a safe manner, obeying all traffic laws at all times
- Responsible for the safe storage of the service vehicle when not on the road
- Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment
- Having the ability to perform remote and in-person diagnostics on a variety of complex electro-hydro-mechanical defects in heavy duty equipment utilizing digital diagnostic tools (Paldiag), and the ability to perform the most efficient and timely repairs, limiting customer equipment down-time.
- Operate various types of servicing equipment
- Installation of new and added-on equipment
- Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Perform incidental welding operations on equipment
- Accurate completion of work orders and time cards
- Repair cable/electrical/air-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques

Our ideal candidates will have:
- Self-starter and self-managing, able to consistently source and schedule work and be in the right place at the right time.
• Fully Qualified Heavy Equipment Journeyperson with 421 A Red Seal Ticket or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in the related field.
• Mechanically and electrically inclined – with a sound working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
• Impeccable Safety awareness.
• Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license and a recent clean driver's abstract
• Proven abilities in reading and understanding hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematics.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised in inclement weather and remote locations in a fast-paced environment. Able to travel for long periods and book own out of hours accommodation.
• Experience with service work orders and the ability to maintain customer transactions and technical stories related to maintenance/repair operations, with good attention to detail.
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Able to work well under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
• Must be fully computer literate.
• Weight handling of up to 80 lbs. required
