Intermediate Legal Administrative Assistant/Paralegal Civil Litigation
Job Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000

Our client, a well-established boutique law firm, is seeking a skilled litigation LAA/paralegal hybrid to join their construction law team. If your qualifications and experience align with the requirements below, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Opening and maintaining files, ensuring policies and procedures are followed per organizational guidelines, running conflict searches, maintaining calendars and bring forwards, and preparing routine correspondence.
  • Scheduling trial dates, discoveries, meetings, and conferences while confirming dates with all involved parties as required.
  • Arranging court reporters.
  • Assisting with the preparation of document binders, lists of documents, notices of applications, and pleadings.
  • Arranging for service of court documents.
  • Filing court documents via BC Online, agent, and in-person.
  • Tracking deadlines to ensure compliance with court limitations.
  • Providing administrative support and preparing monthly invoices.
  • Preparing materials for administrative hearings.
  • Reviewing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets.
  • Electronically organizing and maintaining files.
  • Conducting BC Online, LTO, and corporate searches.
  • Arranging for expense reimbursements.
  • Coordinating documents for trust disbursements.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil litigation (experience in construction litigation is an asset).
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary LAA program or equivalent practical experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, court practices, procedures, and filing deadlines.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to handle pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines accurately.
  • A client-centered approach and commitment to providing outstanding service.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate resourcefulness.
  • Availability to work overtime if required.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows (intermediate level).
  • Proficient knowledge in Adobe, including OCR, text searching, editing, redacting, and hyperlinking PDF documents.
  • Experience with BC Online, BC Registries, and MyLTSA.
  • Familiarity with iManage is considered an asset.
  • A willingness to embrace advanced technologies and adapt to new tools effectively.
