Human Resources Manager

Full Time, Permanent

FNTI is seeking a Human Resources Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our HR functions. This role plays a critical part in supporting organizational growth by driving talent development, employee engagement, policy alignment, and workplace wellness. The successful candidate will oversee recruitment and retention efforts, performance and employee relations practices, compensation and benefits, and ensure compliance with evolving legislation, all within a culturally responsive and community-focused framework.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of FNTIs human resource and talent strategy with a focus on current and future workforce needs, including recruitment, retention, and succession planning.
  • Develop and implement human resources policies aligned with organizational values, employment legislation, and emerging HR trends.
  • Monitor and manage the HR budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Stay informed of and ensure compliance with employment legislation (ESA, AODA, HRC, OHSA, etc.), protecting both employee rights and organizational interests.
  • Monitor and report on HR initiatives and strategic goal accomplishment through regular reporting.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Collaborate with managers to identify staffing needs, develop job descriptions, and participate on the Job Evaluation Committee.
  • Oversee the entire talent acquisition process, from job creation and posting to screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Chair and participate in interview panels for all externally and internally advertised positions.
  • Negotiate employment agreements and ensure a smooth onboarding experience through a comprehensive orientation program.

Performance Management & Employee Development

  • Manage the annual performance review cycle, provide coaching to managers, and support employee performance improvement initiatives.
  • Train and coach managers to promote effective communication, accountability, and leadership.
  • Design and direct employee development programs, including internal training, succession planning, and career growth opportunities.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and make recommendations to improve retention.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for managers, employees, and external HR stakeholders (e.g., benefits providers, WSIB).
  • Provide guidance on sensitive or complex HR matters including conflict resolution, accommodations, and progressive discipline.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture through effective employee relations practices that enhance morale and motivation.
  • Support employee wellness initiatives and foster a healthy, balanced work environment.

Compensation, Benefits & Attendance

  • Administer compensation, benefit plans, and payroll-related forms in coordination with Finance.
  • Track, audit, and report on employee attendance and leaves, including STD, LTD, WSIB, and other LOAs.
  • Conduct compensation benchmarking and recommend competitive pay structures to attract and retain talent.
  • Ensure effective communication and administration of all benefit-related processes, including enrolment, terminations, and updates.

HR Operations & Systems

  • Maintain accurate and secure HR records, including confidential files such as medical documentation.
  • Administer HRIS systems, and leave management software.
  • Ensure timely and accurate generation of all employment documents, including offer letters, promotions, contracts, and pay increases.
  • Prepare and manage HR documentation, downloads, and training record tracking.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety and accountability by promoting an internal responsibility system.
  • Serve on the Joint Health and Safety Committee, collaborating on mandatory training and compliance.
  • Ensure workplace health and safety policies and procedures are communicated and followed.

Training, Communication & Support

  • Coordinate HR-related training and educational materials for staff, including handbooks, manuals, and standardized resources.
  • Prepare and deliver internal communications related to HR processes, updates, and employee matters.
  • Train, coach, and support HR team members to ensure departmental effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Three year Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, combined with a minimum
    of
    five
    or
    six
    years
    related
    experience
    or
    a
    combination
    considered
    an
    equivalent by FNTI.
  • CHRP/CHRL
    would
    be
    a
    definite asset.
  • Experience with BambooHR an asset.
  • Excellent

  • Working
    in
    an
    Indigenous
    organization
    an
    asset

Conditions of Employment:

  • Willing and able to travel on occasions as well as work overtime as required.
  • Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check.
