Community Chef and Food Skills Coordinator
Huronia Transition Homes is non-profit organization working to end all violence against all women. We operate 5 primary programs in North Simcoe, including Operation Grow, a social enterprise located in Midland. Operation Grow is holistically designed to address poverty, food scarcity, isolation, and the impacts of violence. This innovative social enterprise combines a hydroponic vertical farm, yoga studio, commercial kitchen and retail space to provide opportunities for women who have survived violence to increase their livelihoods
Operation Grow is a social enterprise in Midland holistically designed to address poverty, food scarcity, isolation, and the impacts of violence. This innovative social enterprise combines a hydroponic vertical farm, yoga studio, commercial kitchen and retail space to provide opportunities for women who have survived violence to increase their livelihoods. We are currently seeking a full time (34-hours per week) Community Chef and Food Skills Coordinator to coordinate all food and rental activities at Operation Grow.
The key responsibilities include:
Operation and oversight of the kitchen and relevant programming;
Develop, standardize, and prepare recipes of products for sale in the adjoined retail space.
Support with retail responsibilities.
Coordinate catering and volunteers.
Ensure that all facilities and equipment are kept in good working order.
Facilitate workshops, trainings, and programming for Operation Grow members related to food preparation and nutrition.
Prepare food for on-site programming at Operation Grow.
Ensure adherence to all relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures.
Promote a healthy, safe, and clean environment.
Promotion and awareness of Operation Grows business functions to the greater community.
Support evenings and weekends as required for events and business opportunities.
Qualifications:
Relevant post-secondary education
3 5 years of relevant work experience
Demonstrated experience working in a professional kitchen.
Familiarity with community kitchens and large-scale preparation of food.
Food Handler Certification
Smart Server Certification
Experience in recipe development, standardization, food packaging processes, and kitchen operations
Demonstrated Experience delivering hands-on training and food skills workshops
Strong understanding of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and quality control
Ability to develop, document, and teach standardized recipes and kitchen procedures
Skilled in coordinating kitchen logistics, inventory
Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrable knowledge of intersectional feminism, anti-racism, ant-oppression, violence against women, harm reduction, food sovereignty and poverty reduction
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a kitchen environment

Starting Annual Salary: $ 50,129.32
