Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Capital, the Senior Financial Analyst – Capital will serve as a business partner to the various corporate functions. This role is responsible for managing the full cycle of capital accounting activities - including budgeting, forecasting, accurate and timely accounting and reporting, while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

The ideal candidate will be relationship oriented, proactive, self-motivated, bring critical thinking, possess a high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position will support their team towards the overall successful achievement of the team goals.

This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario, with flexibility for our hybrid work model.

Key Responsibilities:

Capital Planning & Analysis

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the company related to the capital process and provide support to the business
  • Partner with Asset Management and Development team to track project budgets and forecasts, ensuring expenditures align with capital plans
  • Assist in the development of capital budgets and forecast updates
  • Analyze and provide commentary on monthly variances to budget and forecast

Capital Accounting and Reporting

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for capital projects – from validating purchase orders, preparing journal entries to reconciliations and asset tracking
  • Maintain asset subledger, ensuring timely recognition of assets, accurate classification, allocations and depreciation setup
  • Review capital costs monthly, ensuring proper asset registration, in-service timing, and accurate derecognition when applicable.
  • Prepare capital related materials for internal, external and board reporting
  • Conduct monthly capital review meetings with key internal stakeholders to ensure full visibility and provide actionable recommendations
  • Manage special projects, ad-hoc analysis and prepare reports as required

Process Improvement & Controls:

  • Strengthen internal controls, refine capital processes, and drive continuous improvement
  • Champion best practices in capital management and serve as a trusted capital advisor across departments

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, accounting, or other similar finance roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • CPA designation
  • Strong knowledge of Excel with the ability to work with large, complex data sets
  • Working accounting experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Workday preferred
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills; can see the "big picture" in a complex business environment
  • Ability to clearly and confidently communicate written and verbal recommendations
  • Highly driven with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
  • Comfortable working in a matrix management structure, engaging with both business unit leaders and corporate executives
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
