Job Purpose
- The primary responsibility is to complete the independent validation of information through the requirements that are in place, including analytical analysis.
- This position moves beyond the preparation and validation process to include an inherent analytical perspective of the product, to ensure the integrity of the data that supports the reporting of the financial statement and taxation processes.
- This position is responsible for preparing financial statement reporting and taxation responsibilities. In addition this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Company and Regulatory requirements as defined. The focus of this role is on producing results over a 3-6 month timeframe.
Key Accountabilities
- Review the financial statements and ensure they are prepared in a timely and accurate basis and are compliant with the regulatory requirements.
- Review the T3 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are complaint with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Review the T2 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are complaint with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Analyze in detail, the accounting and tax impact of complex corporate actions affecting the funds in a timely and accurate basis.
- Calculate and analyze income and capital gains distributions for the Mutual Fund Trusts, Mutual Fund Corporations and Pooled Funds and ensure the calculations are compliant with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Calculate and analyze tax factor calculations for each class or fund for T3 unitholder filings.
Must-Have Skills:
- Ability to apply accounting and mathematical principles to work as needed.
- Ability to analyze business trends and project future revenues and expenses.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations as related to accounting.
- Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and any other related accounting software.
- Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking.
- Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Previous experience with TaxPrep
- Has or is working towards and accounting designation
Knowledge
- Extensive Investment Fund Accounting experience
- Strong comprehensive Business knowledge and understanding of the Investment Industry and derivatives
- Strong understanding of the Securities Industry as it relates to the requirements of Financial Reporting and Taxation of Trusts, Corporations and Pooled Funds.
- Fundamental understanding of tax issues as it relates to the Mutual Fund Industry.
Education
- University degree or equivalent
- Accounting designation i.e. CMA or CGA
- Canadian Securities Course or IFIC designation
- Operational abilities in automated network and application software tools, including external software.
