Job Description

Our client in the public sector is seeking an AWS Cloud Consultant to lead the implementation of scalable, secure cloud infrastructure.

Location: Mainly remote, some hybrid - Kitchener/Waterloo area

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and design of AWS cloud environments for application modernization, infrastructure migration, and data platform initiatives.
  • Develop cloud architecture roadmaps and reference models aligned with public sector compliance requirements (e.g., data residency, NIST, ITSG-33).
  • Design secure, high-availability solutions using AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and Control Tower.
  • Provide architectural guidance across multiple projects, ensuring consistency and alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Support integration with on-prem systems and third-party platforms (e.g., identity providers, government APIs).
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, DevOps, application, and data teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-effective.
  • Produce architecture documentation, deployment diagrams, and governance artifacts.
  • Mentor cloud engineering teams and conduct knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Assist with cloud procurement, cost estimation, and vendor evaluation processes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of IT architecture experience, with at least 4 years focused on AWS cloud solutions.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional or Associate) required.
  • Experience with public sector cloud projects involving security, compliance, and vendor governance.
  • Strong understanding of networking, IAM, security controls, encryption, and monitoring within AWS environments.
  • Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
  • Solid understanding of hybrid cloud, landing zone design, and cloud-native development patterns.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across business and technical teams.
