Our client in the public sector is seeking a Tableau consultant to support their data visualizations and dashboards.
Location: Mainly remote, some hybrid - Kitchener/Waterloo area
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain interactive Tableau dashboards and reports that align with public sector programs and performance goals.
- Gather and validate business requirements from stakeholders across departments (e.g., finance, HR, operations, public health, infrastructure).
- Connect Tableau to various data sources (e.g., SQL Server, Excel, APIs, cloud-based systems) and ensure data integrity.
- Create calculated fields, KPIs, trend lines, and visualizations that support data-driven decision making.
- Optimize dashboard performance and layout for accessibility and user experience.
- Ensure adherence to public sector data privacy, accessibility (e.g., AODA), and security standards.
- Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and training to internal staff.
- Support open data or transparency reporting initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on Tableau development experience, including dashboard design, data modeling, and user support.
- Experience working with public sector organizations, including knowledge of government accountability and reporting practices.
- Strong SQL skills and ability to work with structured and semi-structured data sources.
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and quality control practices.
- Proficiency in creating executive-level dashboards with actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
