Job Summary

The Sales Engineer (SE) is responsible for accurately selecting and defining product and project design requirements by reviewing plans and specifications. The SE will develop designs that meet customer needs while aligning with internal production standards based on application-specific mechanical and process requirements. This role includes preparing budgetary, design-build, and final firm bid costing estimates for projects in the Canadian Municipal and Industrial markets.

The SE provides technical support to the Regional Sales Director, cross-functional team members, and Canadian Representatives, including sizing and selecting HUBER Technology equipment, providing hydraulic calculations, drawings, layouts, and technical information. The SE will also support project management and customer pilot testing equipment.

The SE will collaborate with sales and manufacturing support teams at HUBER SE headquarters in Germany and report to the Managing Director – Canada. This role is based in the Greater Toronto Area and includes infrequent travel within Canada, Germany, and the USA. Candidates must be able to read and interpret technical specifications in English; fluency in French is considered an asset. Strong communication, customer focus, and attention to detail are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer requirements and project documents to assess process, material, timing, tolerances, and cost considerations.
  • Review plans and specifications to develop cost estimates and detailed scope of supply.
  • Maintain detailed commercial and technical documentation for each project.
  • Coordinate design activities with internal and German-based HUBER teams.
  • Recommend project strategies and design considerations based on scope and schedule.
  • Work with the project team to develop a successful bid strategy.
  • Submit pricing and proposals for review and approval.
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings.
  • Use CRM systems to manage bids and proposals.
  • Respond to technical questions and provide timely stakeholder support.
  • Stay informed about markets, products, and competition.
  • Organize customer pilot testing projects in collaboration with HUBER SE in Germany.
  • Manage project execution, including drawings, vendor data, compliance, and field services coordination.
  • Conduct customer presentations in-person and online.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Primarily office-based, with potential exposure to noise, dust, or other elements at customer sites or the warehouse. Visits to wastewater treatment facilities for on-site testing of wastewater and biosolids may be required. Vaccinations for tetanus, Hepatitis A & B are recommended.

Physical Demands

  • Must meet deadlines under pressure and be detail-oriented.
  • Capable of presenting at tradeshows and conferences.
  • Able to communicate effectively in person and via phone or presentations.
  • Must be able to move between office, client sites, and manufacturing locations.
  • Able to lift up to 20 kg.

Position Type and Hours

Full-time; Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Travel

Travel is limited to Canada for meetings, site visits, training, and tradeshows. Occasional international travel to Germany (training) and the USA (tradeshows).

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in application engineering, technical sales, or similar technical support roles.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes is an asset.
  • Experience with headworks screening and sludge treatment equipment is a plus.
