The Part-Time Registered Early Childhood Educator (Teens Mothers' Program) is responsible for the planning and implementation of the child care program in accordance with the goals of the Teen Mothers' Department and the overall Association. They work as part of a team with program staff and volunteers to provide an integrated program that includes planning and delivering core services that build responsive adult-child relationships and encourage children's exploration, play and inquiry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with the Manager to develop the EarlyON Program;
  • Establishes and implements age-appropriate routines for the children in accordance with the philosophy of the EarlyON program;
  • Works as part of a team to enhance the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children;
  • Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concern for their interest, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
  • Works with the children and their parents in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child's individual needs;
  • Works with mothers and their children to deliver a family- centered, child development program;
  • Ensures appropriate notification of child abuse as required by the Child and Family Services Act and in accordance with the policies of the YWCA;
  • Completes child development observational reports;
  • Supervises volunteers and placement students;
  • Attends parent/child meetings, staff meetings and training when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • An Early Childhood Education Diploma or recognized equivalent plus 1-3 years experience with children ages 0 to 6 (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • Early Childhood Educators must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  • First Aid Certificate;
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, theory and practice;
  • Skills and flexibility to work with mixed age groupings from 0 to 6;
  • Experience working within a multicultural environment;
  • Second language an asset.
