PMO Lead (Leader of the Project Management Office)

We are currently seeking a PMO Lead to lead the establishment, development, and management of the MMIST Project Management Office (PMO) within the organization join our dynamic team in Ottawa.

What will you be doing?
The PMO Lead will be responsible for creating a centralized structure to oversee project governance, standardization, and strategic alignment across all project management activities. The role is still a hands on project management position and you will lead challenging projects but overall have fewer projects assigned to balance workload.

  • PMO Establishment and Strategy, implement the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the PMO organization aligned with MMIST's goals.
  • Define and establish PMO policies, processes, methodologies, tools, and templates for project management.
  • Standardize project governance practices across all teams to ensure consistency in execution.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and drive initiatives to enhance project delivery efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Project Managers and Technical Program Managers within the PMO structure.
  • Provide guidance on project planning, execution, risk management, scope control, resource allocation, and issue resolution.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the PMO team.
  • Oversee the management of multiple projects within the portfolio to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Monitor project performance using earned value metrics and other KPIs to track progress against goals.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards while adhering to contractual requirements.
  • Facilitate resource planning across projects to optimize allocation and utilization.
  • Lead the weekly Project Review Meeting and focus on critical issues and decisions required. Provide status updates/commentary via email and leverage system dashboards
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, standards, regulations, and industry best practices in all project activities.
  • Lead audits related to project management processes and drive corrective actions as needed.
  • Implement risk assessment frameworks to proactively identify potential issues across the portfolio.

What do we need from you?

  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP, Prince2 etc)
  • Proven experience working within a PMO framework ideally with experience in the creation and maintenance of processes and policy.
  • Strong background in project and program management methodologies.
  • Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on project leadership.
  • Experience managing technical or engineering projects is preferred.
