Job Description:

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Technologist to join our growing team and support our fast-paced, high-volume, made-to-order Sprocket Manufacturer in the beautiful South Slocan, BC. Key Responsibilities:

  • Create precise technical drawings for mechanical assemblies and components are completed on time, ensuring accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Work closely with design and manufacturing teams to verify the feasibility and manufacturability of designs.
  • Develop clear manufacturing plans that outline the necessary processes to transition designs into finished products, ensuring alignment with production capabilities.
  • Specify required materials, quantities, and tools for each production stage, ensuring accuracy to prevent delays and optimize resources.
  • Provide clear instructions for assembly, fabrication, and testing to ensure designs are producible with minimal disruption and adhere to quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design processes, expedite production, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (sales, manufacturing, design, procurement) to ensure design improvements are practical and aligned with manufacturing needs and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of design files, specifications, and revisions for traceability and reference, adhering to company documentation standards.
  • Track and document design changes, providing explanations of modifications and their impact on production.
  • Ensure all revisions are accurately reflected in the final designs and communicated to relevant teams to minimize errors and ensure smooth manufacturing processes.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 2+ years in mechanical design and/or procurement. Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments is preferred.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, along with familiarity with ERP systems. Additionally, a strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes is essential.
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical design, with experience interpreting technical drawings and customer specifications.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and offer practical solutions, leveraging effective professional communication skills to engage design, manufacturing, and sales teams.
  • Excellent focus on accuracy in design work to ensure quality and manufacturability.
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial components such as bearings, gears, sheaves, or other power transmission and material conveyance products.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
