Indigenous Languages Revitalization Program Coordinator

1 Vacancy Full Time Contract ending March 31, 2026

SUMMARY:

The Indigenous Languages Revitalization Program Coordinator will coordinate and support all aspects of Indigenous languages revitalization knowledge transfer and planning within the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (TBIFC). The ILRP Coordinator will lead and coordinate the design, development, implementation, in-service and evaluation of the Indigenous Languages Revitalization Program services, resources, and materials. The ILRP Coordinator will work closely with community partners and other knowledge carriers while working to promote, revitalize and support Indigenous language learning in Thunder Bay.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, and/or combination of education and relevant work experience; minimum of two years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community.
  • High level oral and written fluency in Indigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of residential schools, child welfare system, and colonialism on intergenerational language transmission.
  • Knowledge and experience working with urban Indigenous children, youth, families and individuals in a healing and reconciliation capacity.
  • Experience planning and leading educational, one-on-one and/ or support groups. Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver educational and cultural workshops.
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting.
  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective communication skills.
  • Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to take initiative.
  • Effective crisis intervention skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word including database applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Clearance Check is a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable transportation.
