Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Roe Environmental Inc. is seeking experienced commercial boat operators with Small Vessel Operating Proficiency (SVOP) certification, to aid in the delivery of a Marine Mammal Monitoring Program for the construction of a marine terminal at the Woodfibre LNG project near Squamish, BC.

Boat operators will be responsible for safe operation of boats to provide access for Marine Mammal Observers and environmental technicians to conduct visual observations for marine mammals, deploy sensitive monitoring equipment, and conduct water quality monitoring.

Boats provided by Roe will be less than 9m (27') in length, be appropriate to local weather/sea conditions, have a cabin and heater, and rigged for safe operation.

Position to require shift work - likely 2 weeks on, 1 weeks off in a camp style facility (floatel).

Working days can normally be up to 10 - 12 hours.

Day shift and night shift operator positions will be available.

POSITION TERM

Temporary contract from July 2025 to February 2026 with opportunity for continued full time employment.

POSITION LOCATION

Woodfibre LNG project, northern Howe Sound, near Squamish, BC.

REQUIREMENTS

●Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)

●Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS) Formerly MED A3

●Restricted Operator Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M)

●Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid

●Minimum 5 years of experience operating comparable commercial vessels

●Drug and alcohol testing in keeping with Woodfibre LNG requirements

PREFERRED CAPABILITIES

●Experience with vessel operation in Howe Sound

●Experience working on large-scale construction projects

●Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract

PREFERENCES GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH

●Priority placement will be given to (1) Squamish Nation members and (2) Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record.

●Priority placement will be given to residents of Squamish, Whistler and the Vancouver North Shore

COMPENSATION

$35/hour - $37/hour based on experience and training

30% increase on hourly rate for all night shift work

BENEFITS

Overtime per provincial standards (1.5x over 8hrs, 2x over 12hrs)
