Job Description

Introduction

Brunel is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to support a high-impact mining project currently in the execution phase. The successful candidate will contribute to detailed design and engineering activities, focusing on electrical layouts, instrumentation schematics, and 3D model development. This is a dynamic opportunity to work on mineral processing facilities and be part of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical and instrumentation models in a 3D environment, ensuring alignment with project standards (SmartPlant Instrumentation/3D preferred).
  • Prepare electrical layout drawings, cable tray routing, and detailed instrument loop diagrams.
  • Ensure accurate design for plant systems such as MCCs, substations, control panels, and field instruments.
  • Interpret and update single-line diagrams, P&IDs, and instrumentation indexes.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other designers to maintain interdisciplinary coordination and ensure design consistency.
  • Participate in model reviews and provide support for action item resolution throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Assist in quantity take-offs, material specifications, and support procurement and construction teams as needed.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of electrical and instrumentation design experience within an EPC or EPCM environment, preferably in the mining or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proficiency with E&I design tools, including SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), SmartPlant Electrical, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation codes and standards (e.g., CSA, NEC, ISA).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and vendor data.
  • Experience with hazardous area classification and cable tray design is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve technical challenges efficiently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
