Job Description

We are seeking a versatile and technically skilled Drive Systems Engineer to join our team. This role combines field operations expertise with application engineering, focusing on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Soft Starters (SS) for Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems. The ideal candidate will handle VFD/SS commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance while also supporting VFD/SS sizing, proposal preparation, and technical sales. This position requires strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to support both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

The Drive Systems Engineer will perform a variation of the following duties, depending on operational needs, customer needs, and project requirements:

•Perform commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and Soft Starter (SS) systems, including Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) applications, at customer sites.

•Provide on-site technical support to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently, including working after hours, on weekends, and statutory holidays as required.

•Train customers on system operations, safety protocols, and maintenance best practices.

•Assess customer applications and requirements to recommend appropriate VFD and SS solutions.

•Evaluate and size VFDs, Soft Starters, and associated accessories for LV and MV systems.

•Prepare detailed technical proposals, including system design, product selection, and cost estimation.

•Act as a technical liaison for both internal teams and external customers, ensuring satisfaction and successful project outcomes.

•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address technical inquiries and deliver optimized solutions.

•Communicate project progress effectively with clients to align with project goals and organizational objectives.

•Manage time allocations effectively, meet deadlines, and provide accurate time estimates for tasks.

•Record work hours and comments in the timesheet program on time, adhering to management deadlines.

•Document service activities, including test results, troubleshooting steps, and customer feedback for continuous improvement.

Requirements

•Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.

•2 to 5 years of experience with VFDs, Soft Starters, and motor control systems in industrial environments, including LV and MV applications.

•Strong understanding of power electronics, motor control principles, and system integration.

•Hands-on field experience with system commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

•Excellent communication, technical writing, and customer-facing skills.

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

•Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
