Job Description

GIP is seeking a motivated Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team, as part of the GTA Construction Group (Highways and Structures), focused on Temporary Works. In this role, you'll be an integral part of a growing team that supports every phase of the construction process. Your contributions will include developing innovative conceptual designs, performing and reviewing structural calculations, generating detailed drawings, and coordinating tasks to align with project schedules—all while prioritizing safety and efficiency for our construction crews.

Primary Scope of Role:

  • Design temporary structures and construction methods, including formwork, falsework, work platforms, temporary bridges, fall protection systems, shallow foundations, connections, excavation support systems, custom rigging, lifting devices, hoisting, and jacking systems.
  • Conduct structural analysis to ensure stability during construction or demolition of bridges or similar structures.
  • Develop and/or review calculations in compliance with industry codes, standards, client-specific design criteria, departmental guidelines, and sound engineering principles.
  • Create detailed design drawings using AutoCAD or Revit, adhering to department standards.
  • Maintain high-quality and accuracy in all design deliverables.
  • Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Assist in project management tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and stakeholder communication.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings as required.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect designs, engage in coordination meetings, and perform site assessments.

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum 5 years of experience on bridge construction projects, or similar.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Master's degree or higher in Structural Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Experience with temporary structures and/or field experience is considered an asset.
  • Ontario Profession Engineer License (P.Eng.)
  • Proficient with Autodesk drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, etc.) and structural analysis tools (RISA, SAP2000, Bluebeam, Mathcad, Excel etc.).
  • Review and provide feedback on the design and/or drawings of junior team members.
  • Seal and/or co-seal engineering documents produced by yourself and other team members.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments effectively.
  • Valid G Driver's License with access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
  • Capability to navigate construction sites in diverse climates and environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Work efficiently to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
  • Perform tasks safely and effectively, adhering to both oral and written instructions, including safety protocols, equipment usage, and company policies.
