JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Tim Hortons bookkeeper plays a key leadership role in helping manage daily operations, supporting team members, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Here's a breakdown of duties and responsibilities of our Bookkeeper at Tim Hortons located at 464 LaHave Street in Bridgewater, NS.

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:
  • Process and record supplier invoices and payments.
  • Track customer receipts, especially for catering or large orders.
  • Bank Reconciliations:
  • Reconcile daily cash, credit card, and debit transactions.
  • Match bank statements to internal financial records.
  • Payroll Assistance:
  • Process and verify employee hours using Quick Service Software..
  • Prepare or assist in processing payroll, ensuring compliance with local labor laws.
  • Daily Sales Reporting:
  • Review and verify daily sales reports from the POS system.
  • Identify discrepancies between cash reports and actual deposits.
  • Inventory & Cost Control:
  • Track inventory purchases, usage and variance.
  • Assist in monitoring food cost percentages and waste records.
  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare basic monthly financial reports for management and restaurant owners.
  • Maintain general ledgers and make journal entries to record purchases.
  • Tax Filing Support:
  • Collect and organize data for GST/HST, payroll, and other local tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA or other regulatory bodies.
  • Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Organize and archive invoices, receipts, payroll records, etc.
  • Support External Audits:
  • Assist with document preparation during audits or financial reviews.
1. Relationship with Store Manager
  • Support Role: The bookkeeper assists the Store Manager by ensuring all financial transactions, such as daily sales, expenses, and payroll, are accurately recorded.
  • Decision-Making Support: Managers rely on the bookkeeper's reports (e.g. profit/loss summaries, inventory costs) to make informed decisions about staffing, promotions, and purchasing.
  • Accountability: The bookkeeper may help track financial performance against targets set by the manager or franchise owner.
2. Relationship with Franchise Owner / Operator
  • Financial Oversight: The bookkeeper provides essential financial data that allows the franchise owner to monitor business performance and profitability.
  • Compliance Assurance: They help ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and tax obligations, reducing risk for the owner.
  • Budgeting: Their records contribute to preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
3. Interaction with Corporate Tim Hortons (Head Office)
  • Reporting: Bookkeepers may help prepare or submit financial reports or data required by Tim Hortons corporate.
  • Audit Preparation: If corporate audits the store, the bookkeeper plays a key role in providing documentation.
4. Indirect Support to Other Staff
  • Payroll Accuracy: They ensure that team members are paid correctly and on time, which is vital for employee morale.
  • Expense Control: By monitoring food costs and waste, they indirectly support kitchen supervisors or shift leaders trying to meet operational goals.

Our bookkeeper acts as a financial backbone, supporting management by keeping the financial side of the business organized and compliant. While not usually a decision-maker, their work directly affects the quality of decisions made by upper management, especially around budgeting, staffing, and performance tracking.

Must have education related to business accounting/bookkeeping etc.

Experience in the food and beverage industry is an asset but not required.
